Astegon is a legendary Dragon/Dark Pal and the single best mining mount in Palworld — its partner skill turns any ore vein into a firehose of resources. Catching one is an endgame goal, but it pays for itself the moment you ride it into a mineral field.
Where to find Astegon
The reliable source is the fixed Alpha Astegon, a level ~48 boss inside the Destroyed Mineshaft dungeon in the volcanic Mount Obsidian region — bring heat-resistant armor and a Legendary Sphere, and note that it respawns so you can retry.
Astegon also roams as a rarer, higher-level wild spawn in trios on the No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary, the island northeast off the glacier — you'll need a flying mount to reach it and a plan for the sanctuary guards. As a Dragon/Dark type it takes extra damage from Ice (which counters Dragon) and Dragon (which counters Dark); chip its HP below 30% and land a status effect before you throw. If catching one is too costly, breed Cryolinx and Helzephyr — the Huge Dragon Egg they produce can hatch Astegon.
Astegon's best uses: the ultimate mining mount
Astegon's Black Ankylosaur skill increases damage dealt to ore by 1100% and yields 150% more Ore while you're mounted — no other Pal comes close for clearing ore, quartz and coal. Ride it through a mineral field and you'll fill your inventory in seconds, and because it's a flying mount it's a fast, tanky way to travel between the volcano and the nodes you're farming.
At base it brings Mining 7 and Handiwork 3, so it doubles as a top-tier mining-station worker when you're not riding it. It also drops Plasteel and Dragon Radiant Gems — save the gems for Awakening a Dragon Pal, where matching-element gems give the biggest permanent boost.
Astegon's ore multiplier applies while mounted, not at the base — hop on and mine by hand to get the full 1100% bonus.
