A bizarre species which temporarily separates its body and uses its bones to slice through enemies, at the risk of perishing itself upon taking too long. While unconfirmed, older individuals are said to deliberately stay separated in order to trigger their survival instincts and prolong their lifespans.

Skutlass guide
Skutlass is a Water-type Pal added in Palworld 1.0 with one of the most unusual partner skills in the game — it transforms into a high-damage katana you wield directly. It's catchable from mid-game, making it an accessible melee power spike.
Where to find Skutlass
Skutlass spawns in the wild across a Lv 30–66 range, so you can add one to your team from the mid-game onward without waiting for endgame content. The spawn map above shows every confirmed point.
It's Water type and fairly fragile (70 HP, 80 defense), so it's an easy catch compared to the tankier 1.0 legendaries — Electric or Grass attacks will bring it down fast if you need to weaken it first.
The Fish Fillet katana partner skill
When activated, Skutlass's Fish Fillet skill turns the Pal into the player's katana with an Attack value of 2600 — a burst melee weapon you swing yourself. It reverts to normal form if you don't keep attacking, so it rewards aggressive, close-range play.
At the base, Skutlass covers Watering 4 and Lumbering 4, so it's a useful early utility Pal too — but the katana transformation is the reason to catch it.
The katana form is a melee burst tool — pair Skutlass with a ranged Pal so you can switch between poking at distance and the high-damage katana up close.
Skutlass — frequently asked questions
How do you get Skutlass in Palworld?
Catch it in the wild — Skutlass spawns across a Lv 30–66 range, so it's available from the mid-game. It has low HP and defense, so it's an easy capture; Electric or Grass attacks weaken it quickly if needed.
What does Skutlass's partner skill do?
Fish Fillet transforms Skutlass into the player's katana with an Attack of 2600 when activated. It's a burst melee weapon, and Skutlass reverts to its normal form if you stop attacking, so keep the pressure on while it's active.
What is Skutlass weak to?
Skutlass is a Water-type Pal, so it takes extra damage from Electric and Grass attacks.
